Hi my name is Kylie. My sister, Jane died from meningococcal meningitis. She was in college but she did not live in a dorm. She decided because of that fact she did not need the vaccine. In less than 18 hours she went from a headache to death. She died a very painful death.
She was engaged to be married just 6 months before her wedding day. Just a few days after her death we were called to pick up her bride's maid dresses. Her wedding dress still hangs in the closet along with memories of a beautiful, strong, intelligent, kind young woman, my sister.
She was going to be a teacher.
I think of her everyday and miss her more than I can even say.
Jane should not have died. If the awareness and information message was out there like the one Meningitis Angels brings to make sure, all children, teens and young adults are immunized. She would still be here.
My family will be forever changed as a result of meningitis.
I am proud to be a Meningitis Teen Angel.
My mom is on the board of directors for Meningitis Angels. We along with my sister Dawn who raises awareness and money for Angels dedicate a huge part of our life to this cause.
